Ace Wasabi

Any place that offers sushi happy hour is normally a guaranteed win in my book, so it's no surprise that I chose to go to Ace Wasabi for a last minute birthday dinner with four good girlfriends and my dear ol' dad.

Before we ordered anything, I was required to wear this all evening.

we shared everything and ordered much more than what I photographed.

Tuna, rice, and everything nice

After a delicious dinner at Nori last week, Jaclyn and I were inspired to learn how to make sushi. We share a mutual obsession with sushi, and it's safe to say I could have it at least twice a week. Nori has three restaurants in Chicago and at the one closest to us, a good portion of their menu is half off on Mondays!

So the girls and I decided to sign up for a cooking class at Now We're Cookin' in Evanston to learn how to make one of our favorite things! The space at Now We're Cookin' is amazing and the fabulous hostesses were an absolute pleasure, as always. We Started with some delicious cups of miso soup. Yum!

mangoooo!

patting down the rice is key for regular rolls and inside out rolls! (warning: inside out rolls are tricky at first, as are regular rolls, just practice and have fun with it! Make sure to keep a bowl of water near by to dip your fingers in before handling the sticky rice)

tuna, cucumber, avocado, and tons of wasabi

adding sesame seeds

time to roll!

sushirrittttto

I've been dying to try Sushirrito for months because I've heard nothing but good things and have seen far too many photos, so I decided to finally make a plan and try it. All I can say is, all expectations were met, and then some.

I ordered Geisha's Kiss: Yellowfin Tuna (Hand-Caught), Tamago, Piquillo Peppers, Yuzu Tobiko, Lotus Chips, Cucumber, Butter Lettuce, Avocado, Green Onions, Sauce: Sesame White Soya

Jac ordered The Yakuza: Kampachi Sashimi (Hawaiian White Fish), Spicy Jicama, Cucumber, Butter Lettuce, Red Tobiko, Avocado, Green Onions, Sauce: Citrus Mojo

We couldn't resist the lava nachos either...Brown Rice Chips topped with Tuna Picante, Melted Pepper Jack Cheese, Avocado, Green Onions, Nori Strips, Sriracha Aioli

Sriracha Aioli: yes please!

They're only open from 11-3 so there are some lunch hour lines, but definitely worth the wait! Check them out: http://www.sushirrito.com
